The month of September continues to provide good data for the Costa del Sol and to demonstrate the consolidation of the national market. According to the Bulletin of Hotel conjuncture prepared by Turismo Costa del Sol, last September saw an increase of 17.3% of Spanish travelers staying in hotels on the Costa del Sol compared to the same period of 2018. A total of 186,404 Spanish travelers stayed in hotel establishments on the Costa del Sol in September 2019, compared to 158,873 last year.
The president of Tourism Costa del Sol, Francisco Salado, has highlighted the importance of this data because ” they continue to show us Month by month of the recovery of an indispensable market for us as the national one, without neglecting of course the international market, which has also experienced an increase in this month of September, although more moderate”.
Foreign hotel travelers also increased by 2% from 411,381 in 2018 to 419,549 registered in the first eight months of 2019, according to the latest bulletin of Hotel conjuncture published by Turismo Costa del Sol. The arrival of national and international tourists to the Costa del Sol continues to grow month by month. Thus, in September 2019 the Costa del Sol has registered an increase in the number of travelers staying in hotels by 6.3%, with a total of 605,953, compared to the same period last year.
In regards to the hotel nights have also had a rise in outstanding of 21.6% in domestic travelers going from 422.828 of 2018 to the 514.028 registered this year, while overnight stays of foreign travelers have fallen 1.1%, reaching 1.720.677 front 1.740.399 of the past year.
The data by market is also very positive, as there are increases in almost all of them: Finland, + 29.2 %; Italy, + 22.8 %; Spain, + 17.3%; Ireland, + 8.1% or the United Kingdom, + 6.2%. Only France – 26.6 %; Norway – 6.1 %; The Netherlands – 5.0 %; or Germany – 3.5%. In terms of income per room available (Revpar) increased in September 2019, with income of 90.25 euros per room available. This represents an increase of 3.1 per cent over the same period of the previous year. In terms of staff employed in hotels, it has grown by 6.9% during the month of September 2019.
On the other hand, considering the first nine months of the year, the number of travelers staying in hotels on the Costa del Sol has grown by 6.2% over the same period last year, reaching 4,671,448 travelers. Thus, hotel travellers from the domestic market have increased by 11% with a total of 1,771,856, compared to foreigners who have increased by 3.4%, with a total of 2,899,592.As far as hotel overnight stays from January to September 2019 were concerned, they also rose by 2.5%, from 16.184.801 in 2018 to 16.583.169 registered this year, which was called for by the increase in overnight stays by National Travellers (+10.9 %). Positive are also the growth of the following markets: Portugal, with 41,053 travellers staying in hotels (+27.2%); Finland with 51,633 (+20.6%); Italy with 125,042 (+14%); and Ireland with 143,955 (+13.1%). The Bulletin of the hotel situation carried out by Turismo Costa del Sol also states that Malaga ranks third in the ranking of coastal provinces, behind Barcelona and the Balearic Islands in terms of hotel travelers with 4,671,447 travelers from January to September 2019, which is 6.2% more than in the same period of 2018. As for overnight stays, the province of Málaga occupies the fifth place behind Granada, Las Palmas, Valencia and Barcelona. In terms of income per room di sponible (Revpar) increases from January to September, with income of 73.62 euros per room available. This represents an increase of 4.2 per cent over the same period of the previous year.
